Liberian refugees still in the country

The chairman of Nigeria’s National Commission for Refugees, Abdulkadir Mohammed, said on Tuesday there were still some 2,900 Liberian refugees in the country. Speaking at a news conference to mark 20 June as Africa Refugee Day, he said that Liberians formed the largest group of refugees in the country. They had fled during their country’s civil war which ended three years ago. An UNHCR official in Abidjan told IRIN that the refugees were living within the community and were free to return to Liberia.
