Museveni appoints security committee

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday appointed a special committee to handle political and security matters in Africa and the Middle East. “The committee will coordinate political and security matters in case of emergencies, but this does not mean that it has replaced other relevant government organs,” Senior Presidential adviser on media and public relations John Nagenda told IRIN. The committee is headed by the national political commissar, James Wapakhabulo. Other members include ministers of foreign affairs, state for defence, state for regional cooperation, the army commander, his deputy and the army spokesman.
