Several hundred Eritrean soldiers released

Sudanese authorities have released several hundred Eritrean soldiers detained after they crossed the border with the civilian refugees. A UNHCR spokesperson told IRIN that these soldiers, who had been disarmed on arrival in Sudan, were now being allowed to join the civilians in the refugee camps. Some still wore scraps of military uniform. About 800 soldiers are reported to have crossed into Sudan over the past few days. The UNHCR spokesman said the latest arrivals included seven with shrapnel wounds.
