Wamba “minister” in Kinshasa

A rebel claiming to have been a minister in Ernest Wamba dia Wamba’s Rassemblement congolais pour la democratie-Mouvement de liberation (RCD-ML), Kabeya Kandolo Mubenga, arrived in Kinshasa and called for an end to the country’s war, Reuters reported. Mubenga told state television that he had been the RCD-ML social affairs minister. “War is hurting our country,” he said. “I urge the other rebels to do likewise, and stop...because we must rebuild our country.” He said he had been detained at Mbuya jail near Kampala since March and interrogated on suspicion of spying for Congolese President Laurent-Desire Kabila’s government. Mubenga said he escaped with the help of a Ugandan officer who accompanied him to Kinshasa.
