DRC’s minister of state for interior, Gaetan Kakudji, at the weekend said that only political parties approved by decree 194 could make statements. “I wish, therefore, to recall that it is strictly forbidden for any person who is not a member of a political party that has been duly approved in accordance with the above-mentioned decree to make political statements,” state television quoted Kakudji as saying. “Henceforth, any political statements issued outside that legal framework will be considered a threat to national security, and the one who issues such statements will face the penalty provided for in the penal code,” he added. “I do not intend to repeat this.” So far, three political parties have been approved under the decree.
