Demand for release of Mauritanian political detainees

A Senegalese human rights group has called for the release of five political detainees in Mauritania, where tension has escalated since the banning of a popular opposition party in October. The Rencontre africaine pour la defense des droits de l’Homme (RADDHO) said since the government had banned the Union des forces democratiques - Ere nouvelle (UFD-EN), Mauritanians had been suffering “savage repression”.
