Buyoya asks Nigeria to assist peace process

Burundian President Pierre Buyoya on Tuesday said he had used the fifth anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Lagos as an occasion to ask Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo for his help in resolving the Burundi conflict. “As always, on the sidelines of these ceremonies, I held discussions with a number of heads of state, including the Nigerian president with whom I discussed the peace process in Burundi, my concern,” Burundi radio quoted Buyoya as saying. “I told him that we are asking him, the president, to assist,” Buyoya said. “He has already done that and he promised to continue doing so in his own way...,” he added.
