New US aid and investment

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has pledged US $250 million over the next five years for development programmes in South Africa that will include job creation, prevention of HIV/AIDS, strengthening the justice system and improving access to public services like housing. At the same time, the international soft drink company Coca-Cola on this week announced that it would invest US $200 million in South Africa to build new bottling and canning plants, new production lines and launch new soft drink brands.
