Parliamentary “peace mission” cancelled

A “peace mission” by Ugandan Members of Parliament (MPs) to Rwanda - put off three times over the past month - has been definitely cancelled, news agencies reported. “There is no clearance for the MPs, so the visit is not there,” the independent ‘Monitor’ newspaper quoted Permanent Secretary in the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Seth Kamanzi, as saying on Wednesday. Kamanzi said Rwandan authorities were “not convinced” of the reasons for the MPs proposed visit. They had planned to travel to Rwanda on Thursday. “Why should one question our motives? The members of parliament are representatives of the Ugandan people,” Elly Karuhanga, chairman of the Ugandan parliamentary foreign relations committee, told IRIN on Thursday.
