Ex-FAR, Interahamwe to be resettled if they disarm

President Paul Kagame has reiterated the government’s willingness to resettle and reintegrate members of the ex-FAR (Forces armees rwandaises) and Interahamwe militia if they lay down their weapons. Rwandan radio said he told a press briefing that this was “not a new thing” for Rwanda. He recalled that Interahamwe and ex-FAR members were resettled when over a million refugees returned to the country in 1997. “If these people lay down their arms and agree to come back home then we will resettle them in the rest of society,” he said. “Those whom we can reintegrate in other areas, we will do so.”
