Uganda closes Goma consulate

Uganda closed its Goma consulate in eastern DRC on Thursday, a day before the fighting broke out. “The consulate was suddenly closed, and the new consul left without telling the authorities here,” Bizima Karaha, RCD-Goma chief of intelligence, told IRIN. “This gives the impression that what is going on in Kisangani was planned in advance.” Uganda’s official business in eastern DRC is handled through the Goma consulate, and it has never been closed in 20 years, according to Ugandan diplomatic sources.
