Constitutional review nearing completion

Tanzanian Prime Minister Frederick Sumaye on Wednesday said the proposals to review the country’s constitution had gone through “all the necessary” political and government procedures and been approved by both governments of mainland Tanzania and that of Zanzibar. Tanzanian radio quoted him as saying that the proposals represented the views of the people themselves, and that the debate in parliament would be based on how to legalise such views. Sumaye said it was not true that the expected changes in the constitution would only benefit the ruling CCM.
