30 year old Barbara Kano sleeps under a mosquito net with her six weeks old child in the village of Sikensi, in the South East of Côte d’Ivoire. Barbara says she has always used mosquito nets even before they were handed out free. She knows it is very important to protect her children and prevent malaria.
Sleeping under a mosquito net is a simple measure to protect children and adults against malaria. Still, in Côte d’Ivoire four out of ten children don’t sleep under a net. With the help of UNICEF and The Global Fund the government of Côte d’Ivoire launched, a campaign to distribute 15 million mosquito nets across the country.
