EU and Sweden donate food aid

The European Union (EU) and the government of Sweden will donate to Ethiopia 6,500 mt of grain to be distributed to drought-affected people in the country, Agence French-Presse (AFP) reported on 1 September. The donations are part of the a total 13,000 mt of grains pledged by the EU and Sweden to Ethiopia, said AFP. The EU would contribute 4,000 mt, and Sweden 2,500 mt, all of which would purchased locally. Ethiopia has appealed to donors for 63,000 mt of grain and supplementary food for distribution to 6.2 million Ethiopians affected by drought countrywide this year, said AFP.
