Polling firm Pulse Asia Inc. reported on 16 August that 52 percent of Filipinos claimed to have "wide" or "sufficient" knowledge about climate change. The rest said they had "little" or "no knowledge" of the phenomenon.
"Knowledge of climate change in the Philippines appears to be a function of urbanity, age, and educational attainment," chief research fellow Ana Tabunda told IRIN.
"We still have a lot of work to do," said Antonio La Viña, adviser to the Philippines delegation to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations. "We should target 80 percent awareness given the importance of climate change to the country."
