Clinton to "reinvigorate" AIDS political will

Former US President Bill Clinton is to embark on a week-long, six-nation African tour aimed at boosting the work of his foundation in tackling HIV/AIDS on the continent. According to Ira Magaziner, head of the Clinton Foundation's HIV/AIDS Initiative, Clinton is visiting the continent to "reinvigorate political will" in an effort to break down remaining resistance to expanding AIDS initiatives in some of the countries. Agence France-Presse quoted Magaziner as saying, "Most governments now realise that it is a very serious problem that needs to be addressed, but the systems and human infrastructure are not in place to respond to a crisis like this. So, any resistance is more about competency, organisation and human capacity, rather than political opposition." Mozambique, Lesotho and South Africa are among the countries on Clinton's itinerary, when he visits the continent at the end of this week.
