HIV/AIDS is devastating the world's youth

HIV/AIDS is devastating the world's youth, with some 5,000 people aged 15 to 24 infected each day, a United Nations (UN) report has found. Written by young people and launched on Thursday in New York, the report, 'Our Voice, Our Future', noted that young African women were particularly at risk. The report was released ahead of a meeting to review what UN member states have achieved in the fight against HIV/AIDS since the UN General Assembly's 2001 special session on HIV/AIDS, also called for greater involvement of the youth. Thoraya Obaid, executive director of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), said, "Young people still feel sidelined and ornamental when it comes to the national response to HIV/AIDS."
