AIDS discrimination in health care system - study

    JOHANNESBURG

    State clinics and health workers in Namibia have been accused of maltreatment and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS.

    According a local newspaper, The Namibian, the accusations were made after the recent release of a study by the AIDS organisation, Lironga Eparu, which reflect the feelings of 214 people living with the HI virus.

    "Health care for HIV-positive people at state clinics and hospitals is currently a lottery, determined by where you are and which health care workers attend to you," the study said.

    The research also revealed that information on anti-AIDS drugs had not reached some HIV-positive people, even in towns where the medicines were available.
