World media urged to take up AIDS fight

A high-profile summit on tackling HIV/AIDS through the media, saw UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan urge global broadcasters to make the AIDS battle a "corporate priority". Announcing the launch of the "Global Media Initiative", Annan called on the media moguls to take steps to increase the visibility of the disease. The Secretary-General said more shows and series featuring characters affected by HIV/AIDS needed to be introduced. Annan said: "HIV/AIDS is the worst epidemic humanity has ever faced. You can bring the disease out of the shadows and get people talking about it in an open, informed way."
