Popular deejay dies of AIDS-related illness

A popular South African disc jockey, Fana "Khabzela" Khaba, on Wednesday died of an AIDS-related illness. Khabzela, whose mid-morning show at the YFM radio station commanded huge support, announced in May 2003 that he had tested HIV-positive. In an interview with the South African Press Association, the Ministry of Health said Khabzela's disclosure had helped to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and reduce the stigma surrounding the disease. Ministry spokesman Sibani Mngadi said Khabzela's death was a major loss to South Africa's youth and the country as a whole.
