UNV to bolster global AIDS nutrition programme

UN Volunteers (UNV) are backing efforts by the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide nutritious food to people living with HIV/AIDS, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa. In a recent statement UNV said it would use its extensive experience in working with communities, governments and NGOs at local, national and international levels to bolster WFP’s response to the global HIV/AIDS pandemic. Under the initiative, the first group of 10 out of a total of thirty volunteers have already been deployed to assist WFP regional and country offices with programming, nutrition, and monitoring and evaluation. UNV will operate in Angola, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Swaziland, Uganda, and Haiti and Myanmar.
