HIV/AIDS facilities in three South African provinces are set to benefit from a new pledge of almost US $12 million, the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) has said.
The recent agreement between the DBSA and the German Development Bank seeks to improve voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) facilities in remote areas of the KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga provinces.
DBSA executive manager Div Botha was quoted by the South African Press Association as saying: "The agreement not only strengthens the relationship between the two organisations ... but has, for the first time, brought us together for the bigger challenge of tackling HIV/AIDS."
Botha said provincial steering committees would help identify 100 of the VCT facilities in each province in greatest need of renovation and reconstruction.
