HIV/AIDS cartoon booklet launched

To mark Human Rights Day on 10 December 2003, three UN agencies launched a colourful, interactive cartoon booklet designed to empower young people and promote human rights in relation to HIV/AIDS. The booklet is part of the UN's global campaign to tackle HIV/AIDS-related stigma, discrimination and other human rights violations. It was jointly launched by the UN Office for the High Commissioner for Human Rights, UNAIDS and the World Health Organisation (WHO), and explains how HIV is transmitted, and how individuals can protect themselves against infection. The WHO said in a statement that the booklet, "HIV/AIDS Stand Up for Human Rights", also aimed to demystify the disease and combat the myths and taboos associated with it.
