Multinational drug manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has announced a US $1.6 million grant over 2 years to support an HIV/AIDS clinic in Malawi and another in Uganda.
In a recent statement, GSK said the grant was part of the company's long-standing commitment to health initiatives in the developing world, and care and community assistance for people living with HIV/AIDS.
The president of GSK's US operations, Chris Viehbacher, explained that the grant aimed to improve the standard of medical care provided to families, while also promoting community awareness and HIV/AIDS education.
Viehbacher said: "We hope this GSK grant will help support care for the whole family ... if the family's HIV health is addressed, both parents will live longer, so that the child will be cared for."
