Gays ignored in HIV/AIDS campaigns

Homosexual men have been excluded from South African awareness campaigns to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, local gay rights activists have said. The Triangle Project, an NGO working with gay people, said this was despite estimates that as much as 30 percent of the country's gay men were living with HIV/AIDS. Rowan Smith, dean of Cape Town's St George's Cathedral, confirmed that the lack of education put gay men at greater risk of contracting HIV. Local newspaper The Cape Times quoted Smith as saying: "Young people are struggling with their sexuality, and there is nothing to address the sexuality of gay people."
