First ladies to compete in pre-AIDS conference run

Twenty-seven African first ladies are set to participate in an upcoming HIV/AIDS run in Nairobi, Kenya, the news service Agence France Presse (AFP) has reported. The first "International Women's AIDS Run" will recognise the role of African women in caring for people living with HIV/AIDS and AIDS orphans. The 10-kilometre run is expected to raise at least US $6 million to benefit Kenya's women and children, and takes place on the eve of the 13th International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted diseases in Africa (ICASA). Some 8,000 delegates are expected to attend the bi-annual ICASA meeting from 21 to 26 September.
