Youth action urged on HIV/AIDS

South Africa's youth are facing the "triple threat" of HIV/AIDS, joblessness and crime, an opposition party leader said on Monday. Addressing a Youth Day rally in the Limpopo province, Democratic Alliance leader Tony Leon said while the three scourges affected all South Africans, "they affect young people most of all". "Half of all infected people get HIV before they are 25 and die before they are 35," the South African Press Association (SAPA) quoted Leon as saying. He urged more youth action against the "triple threat" of HIV/AIDS, joblessness and crime. "We need you to lead us into the next ten years of democracy in South Africa. Because only you can beat the 'triple threat'. Only you can show us the way," Leon added.
