Visiting French minister to discuss partnerships

Senegal and France will on Tuesday sign a partnership accord which will pave way for four more agreements to be signed in the next few weeks for projects in environment, health, and education totalling some 2.7 billion francs (US $ 3.6 million), the French Foreign Ministry said. The French Cooperation Minister Charles Josselin is expected in Senegal after a visit to Cape Verde on Monday. Josselin and Senegal's economy and finance minister Abdoulaye Diop, will sign the agreement "establishing the general orientations of the French-Senegalese partnership". "Priorities will be given to enhancing human resources, notably in education, health, culture and research; promoting good governance by concentrating on four sectors, public finance, justice, the environment and public safety; improving economic competitiveness in agriculture, fishing, tourism and the private sector; and expanding community services in health, the environment and urban development," a ministry statement said on Friday. The French Minister will also meet President Abdoulaye Wade, to discuss the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) initiative and other regional issues. In Cape Verde, Josselin was due to meet with President Pedro Pires, Prime Minister José Maria Neves, and various ministers to discuss bilateral cooperation, especially in training, decentralisation, the environment, and international politics, the ministry said.
