ActionAid confirms death of worker

    ABIDJAN

    The British charity, ActionAid, has confirmed that one of its staff members was killed in an ambush in Liberia last week, AlertNet reported on Wednesday.

    The British-based news provider, of which ActionAid is a member, reported that Togba Momoh, a Liberian national, was killed when returning by car from an assessment visit to Grand Cape Mount County, northwest of Monrovia. Two colleagues of his returned to Monrovia unhurt.

    AlertNet did not say when or by whom Momoh was killed. However, it reported Liberian Defence Minister Daniel Chea as telling Reuters on Sunday that Momoh was killed near Klay, some 47 km north of Monrovia, when Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy, an anti-government force, attacked the town.

    ActionAid is helping 15,000 refugees in small businesses, agriculture and reconstruction in the border areas of Grand Cape Mount and Lofa County.
