ECOWAS youth secretariat to open

A youth secretariat for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), is to be opened in the capital Monvoria in December, Liberian press reported on Thursday. Officials from ECOWAS and ministers of youth from West African states are expected to arrive in Monrovia by 15 December to participate in the official opening of the secretariat, the papers said. They reported Richelieu Allison, the regional director of the West African Youth Network, as telling journalists last week that the opening of the youth secretariat in Monrovia was in line with a resolution adopted at a just-ended youth summit. According to Allison, ECOWAS officials, including its executive secretary, Lansana Kouyate, and youth ministers from Mali, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Cote d'Ivoire and Benin have been invited to the opening ceremony to be presided over by Liberia's President Charles Taylor.
