France to increase support

Ghana is to become a major recipient of French aid, alongside several francophone countries in Africa. The West African country has been placed on a list of priority partners that are eligible for all French development assistance, French Ambassador Jean-Michel Berrit told a news conference in the capital Accra, Ghanaian press reported. Announcing that Ghana's President John Kufuor was due to start a seven-day visit to France on 30 November, at the invitation of French President Jacques Chirac, Berrit told journalists that apart from aid, French investment and trade with Ghana will also increase, the PanAfrican News Agency (PANA) reported on Thursday. During the visit, Kufuor and French officials will also discuss political developments and regional integration in West Africa, PANA reported the diplomatas saying. The French government is currently supporting infrastructure developments initiatives and other projects in Ghana, the media reported.
