Obasanjo seeks establishment of national AIDS agency

Nigeria's President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday sent a bill to the National Assembly which seeks the establishment of a National Agency for the Prevention and Control of AIDS (NAPCA), news organisations said. 'The Guardian' newspaper reported that NAPCA would coordinate and facilitate the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and other related diseases. Over five percent of Nigeria's population between the ages of 15-49 live with HIV/AIDS, according to the UNDP 2001 World Report.
