Census of unemployed youths to begin next week

    ABIDJAN

    Ghana's authorities are to begin registering all unemployed youth in the West African nation on Monday, news organisations reported. JoyFM radio said the exercise, 'Action by Employment Creation', is in line with the government's policy to create jobs for young people.

    It quoted Deputy Government Spokesman Kwabena Agyepong, as saying that its objective was to provide up-to-date data on the unemployment rate in Ghana. "It will also assist public and private organisations to develop employment programmes to absorb the unemployed and train and develop the creative abilities of Ghanaians to be genuine entrepreneurs and be the masters of their own business," Agyepong said.

    As a first step, those registered will undergo a three-week training programme to enhance their employment chances, he added.
