Japan to supply flood-hit Nigeria with medical supplies

The government of Japan will give medical supplies worth US $129,043 to Nigeria, which has been hit by floods since late August, the Japanese news agency, Kyodo, quoted the Japanese Foreign Ministry as saying on Friday. The supplies will include antibiotics and medicine for treating diarrhoea, malaria and other illnesses, the ministry said. Torrential rain in northern Nigeria has caused rivers to overflow and dams to collapse. The Nigerian Red Cross was reported as saying that some 200 people had died and about 82,000 others had been affected by the floods, which damaged homes and agricultural products.
