Food security programme proposed

The Nigerian government and the UN Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) have signed a memorandum of understanding for the implementation of a food security programme, 'The Guardian' reported on Friday. The proposed Special Programme on Food Security in Nigeria, which has received the support of the FAO and the World Bank, would cost some 45.24 million naira (US $404,000) over a five-year implementation period. The programme aims to promote and replicate production systems that would respond to the needs of farmers for improved livelihood and food security, the Lagos daily reported.
