WFP continues food distributions

Meanwhile, WFP distributed some 118 tons of food through CARE to 14,160 people particularly, “food insecure as a result of insecurity” in Gitega province during the second half of July. The agency in collaboration with the NGOs - GVC and Caritas, also assisted 8,181 malnourished persons in feeding centres in Bujumbura Rural. It note that the security situation remained volatile during the second half of July. Armed banditry continued to occur in Bujumbura and incursions of rebels and looting were regularly reported in Ruyigi, Rutana and Makamba provinces. Some 3,892 refugees from the DRC currently in Cibitoke province as well as 360 people repatriated from Tanzania to Ngozi province received about 70 tons of WFP food through the German agency GTZ. WFP also supplied 108 tons of food benefiting 7,968 most vulnerable persons, including orphans, street children and chronically ill persons, during the second half of July. It also dispatched 515 tons of food to different nutritional programmes for the month of July.
