EU funds to improve water, sanitation

The European Union has announced plans to grant 32 million euros (US $28 million) over the next five years to improve water supply and sanitation projects throughout Cape Verde, PANA reported a government statement as saying. The aid is to be drawn from the European Development Fund, negotiated in July 2000 between the EU and the African, Caribbean and Pacific group of countries, PANA said. The EU contributes to food security and public finance stabilisation programmes in Cape Verde. In addition, China is due to send a technical team to Cape Verde in September to assess its future assistance to irrigation projects.
