Angola’s Fishing Production Grows 37 percent in 2000

Fishing production in Angola exceeded 232,000 mts in the year 2000, showing a 37 percent increase on the previous year, according to the Angolan Ministry of Fishing and Environment. A Xinhua report on Thursday quoted an official document saying the growth could be attributed to the progressive creation of an environment more favourable for the development of the sector. Meanwhile, the Angolan fishing sector had also received some US $7 million through the Fund for Economic and Social Development and the Fund for Supporting Fishing Activities, the report said. The money was to be used to support new projects, according to the report.
