Angolan army finds large rebel arms dump

Angolan troops have found an arms dump containing some 7,900 60 mm shells and 370 crates of other ammunition in the area around Kuito, one of the most war-ravaged towns in the country, news reports said on Monday. The ammunition was left behind by UNITA rebels when they fled before a government offensive which began in late 1998, the military told the official ‘Jornal de Angola’. Quoting the journal, AFP reported that soldiers also found about 1,000 rocket-propelled grenades at Kalussinga, which lies about 200 km from Kuito, the capital of the central Bie Province.
