South African Vice President meets rebels

South African Vice President Jacob Zuma has had talks with Burundian rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as part of efforts to mediate peace in Burundi, news organisations reported. He held separate meetings on Monday in Kinshasa with DRC President Joseph Kabila and with Jean-Bosco Ndayikengurukiye, leader of the rebel Forces de defense pour la democratie (CNDD-FDD), although no details have been released. A DRC-brokered process to bring President Pierre Buyoya and the FDD together for face-to-face talks was launched by the late president Laurent-Desire Kabila in Libreville, Gabon, shortly before his assassination in January.
