Mugabe pleads for rescue

President Robert Mugabe last week allegedly made an appeal to Kuwaiti fuel supplier Independent Petroleum Group (IPG) to release petrol to Zimbabwe after the company refused to do so because of Zimbabwe's poor payment record, 'The Zimbabwe Independent' said on Friday. The report said that the presidential intervention was however a "stop-gap" measure as the fuel problem was expected to linger on until the middle of the year. The newspaper said that the National Oil Company of Zimbabwe (Noczim) has already started to ration fuel companies as only 30 percent of normal supplies were available.
