Angolan military plane crashes, rebels claim responsibility

An Angolan military plane crashed and burst into flames on Thursday while trying to land in eastern Angola, injuring up to five people, a military official was quoted by the Associated Press as saying. According to AP the UNITA rebel movement claimed responsibility. The report said that the Soviet-built Antonov 26 was carrying 17 government soldiers from Luau, on Angola’s eastern border with Zambia, to the city of Luena. The government army has used Luena, the capital of Moxico province, as a major base for operations in eastern Angola.
