US not imposing sanctions on Swaziland

The United States has halted plans to impose trade sanction against Swaziland, after the country amended a controversial labour law deemed restrictive by the International Labour Organisation, SABC reported on Wednesday. The law made workers liable for losses incurred as a result of industrial action. The US embassy in the Swazi capital, Mbabane, said following the law reform, Swaziland would remain inside the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP), a preferential trade pact for developing countries. The country’s trade unions have in recent weeks led a series of disruptive actions to protest against the law.
