Government, Japan conclude guinea worm agreement

Japan has granted the the Global 2000 non-governmental organisation and the Nigeria Guinea Worm Eradication Programme (NIGEP) US $86,774 to buy vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, first aid kits, household filters and health education materials, ‘The Vanguard’ daily reported. Ikeda noted that Guinea worm cases had dropped from 653,620 in 1988 to 6,261 following efforts by various bodies such as the Nigerian and Japanese governments, and NGOs, the Nigerian newspaper said.
