DRC rebels free 25 Zambian villagers

Rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have freed 25 Zambian villagers they seized last weekend but the fate of one is unknown, a Zambian minister was quoted in news reports as saying on Thursday. Home Affairs Minister Peter Machungwa said that the 25 were freed and handed over to Zambian authorities but that one villager was still unaccounted for. “They all appear to be in good health and are back with their families. Negotiations with the rebels are still going on to secure the release of the missing villager”, he said. “No payment of any kind was paid to the Congolese to secure the release of the villagers,” he added.
