Suspected DRC rebels abduct 26 Zambians

Suspected rebels from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have abducted 26 villagers from Zambia’s Northern province, an AFP report said on Monday. “We currently do not know the whereabouts of the 26 abducted villagers,” police spokesman Lemmy Kajoba told AFP. “The 26 abducted villagers were on the river in five different boats near the border with DRC,” he said. According to AFP the incident took place in Kaputa near the border with the DRC. Reports said that senior police officers had been dispatched to the area, and that security had been stepped up along the border to prevent further incursions by the suspected rebels.
