Minani on SA talks

    NAIROBI

    The leader of FRODEBU (exterior), Jean Minani, confirmed that his party alongside the rebel Conseil national pour la defense de la democratie (CNDD), the radical Tutsi PARENA party and the government, held talks in South Africa this week to see how the peace process could move forward. “We are trying to see how we could make progress in the talks, we shall present the results to the others [negotiating sides],” Minani told the BBC Kirundi service. “If they disagree with them, they will bring their suggestions,” he explained. “If they agree, then we shall move forward.” He said the issue of the ceasefire had been discussed, but did not give any concrete answer as to what came out of the discussions. He was also not willing to disclose whoever had been proposed to lead the transitional period saying “the time has not yet come”.
