Mayi-Mayi says Rwanda trying to “fool” people

The Mayi-Mayi militia group has described the situation in DRC as “disastrous” and said the Lusaka peace accord has reached a complete stalemate. In a statement, received by IRIN on Friday, the Union des forces vives pour la liberation et la democratie (UFLD-Mayi Mayi) accused Rwanda of trying to “fool” international and Congolese opinion by announcing that it would withdraw its troops 200 km from the frontlines. It said the deployment of UN troops would “only serve to reinforce Rwandan troop positions to the detriment of government and Mayi-Mayi forces”. The statement called on DRC President Laurent-Desire Kabila to “undertake wide-ranging actions for the complete and immediate liberation of the country”. It condemned “the psuedo-nationalistic speeches, demagogic and misplaced declarations and timid military actions in Equator province”.
