Namibians held in refugee camp

As many as 60 Namibians could be held illegally in a camp for Angolan refugees, 250 km north of the capital Windhoek, the Namibian Society for Human Rights (NSHR) told IRIN. “Many Namibians are in Osire, it could be as many as 50 or 60,” NSHR official, Zen Mnakapa claimed. “This is a violation for citizens of this country of their citizenship. They must be taken out of the camp and go and live with their people.” Mnakapa said that “if the idea is to protect their safety, they have no right to be there. They are IDPs (internally displaced people).” The NSHR has traced and named at least one Namibian woman who was rounded up by the authorities who claimed she was Angolan and transported to Osire.
