Main negotiators go to South Africa

Leaders of the major negotiating parties were due in South Africa on Monday for talks with Mandela, Hirondelle said. They include Jean Minani of the external wing of FRODEBU, Leonard Nyangoma of the rebel CNDD, former presidents Sylvestre Ntibantunganya and Jean-Baptiste Bagaza who leads the radical Tutsi PARENA party. Sources also said President Pierre Buyoya was expected in South Africa. The talks are expected to tackle the thorny issues of the transition and the ceasefire. Libere Bararunyeretse, who leads the pro-government UPRONA faction at the talks, said it was hoped this meeting would remove the current stalemate.
